SHARING THE NEW SCIENCE OF CHRONIC PAIN & ILLNESS

Your journey begins here.

The Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms teaches research-based treatment to relieve chronic pain and illness not caused by disease or injury but rather by learned neural pathways in the brain. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by physicians and psychologists.

Pain Science Paradigm Shift

The groundbreaking science of chronic pain (and other symptoms) is explained by scientists who did the research, clinicians who put it into practice, and patients who experienced the life-changing benefits.

The New Science Behind the Symptoms

In patients with back pain for an average of 10 years, pain decreased by 75% after eight one-hour sessions of neuroplastic psychology.

After an average of nine months of long Covid, neuroplastic psychology led to a 77% decrease in pain interfering with activity.

In a study in Los Angeles, 67% of older male veterans with chronic pain achieved at least 30% pain relief with neuroplastic psychology.

In a study at Harvard, 64% of people with chronic back pain became pain-free after six months of neuroplastic psychology treatment.

Neuroplastic Symptoms (NS)

When high levels of stress are not fully recognized, the brain and nerve system (“Neuro”) can generate real pain or illness anywhere in the body. This occurs in many people with strong, healthy minds and affects one in five adults and two in five patients. These symptoms can be changed (“plastic”).

Nerve Pathway Changes

Research shows NS are associated with altered nerve pathways in the brain. These occur in people with stress, trauma, and unprocessed emotions that sometimes are linked to experiences in childhood you would never want for a child of your own.

Knowledge Becomes Healing

Fortunately, new scientific research shows that neuroplastic psychology achieves far better relief of neuroplastic pain and illness than older approaches.

4 out of 10 people seen by physicians suffer from neuroplastic conditions.

  • I had 23 years of chronic pain. 5 years ago I couldn't walk more than three blocks; now I hike easy 12 miles, do salsa, play pickle ball. I have my life back.

    Jenny F.

  • I was trapped in chronic pain. I did MRIs, physical therapy, medications, every foam roller and treatment imaginable. Nothing worked. I came across these resources and live pain-free today.

    Monica S.

  • I am a former semipro cyclist and I used to be partially bedridden on strong painkillers. Today I do 500 mile bike trips without even thinking about my back.

    Alec K.

  • “These concepts put the joy back into my work.”

    Beth L., Family Medicine MD

  • I used to suffer from chronic back pain and it was difficult to get out of bed. Now I run every day and play with my daughter.

    Mary W.

  • I received a diagnosis of Long COVID. I couldn't walk or talk. Now, I can run and dance.

    Cameille T.

  • The ATNS is the hub for all mindbody and neuroplastic symptom professionals looking to connect, expand, learn, and hone our trades.

ATNS

The Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms (ATNS) is a nonprofit corporation led by medical and mental health practitioners, researchers, and patient advocates. Our Mission is to educate practitioners and the public about applying the latest scientific research to diagnosis and treatment of neuroplastic pain and illness. We also advocate for providing the same availability and quality of care for neuroplastic symptoms as for any other form of illness.
