Neuroplastic Symptoms 101

What are neuroplastic symptoms?
New research shows that chronic pain and illness often are generated not in the body but the brain. The symptoms are created by learned neural pathways (“neuro”) and are not permanent but reversible (“plastic”).

Who has neuroplastic symptoms?
Anyone can have them. They are a danger signal so stress, trauma, emotions and other life challenges (even when not fully recognized) play a key role. For example, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that you would not want for a child of your own significantly increase the risk of neuroplastic symptoms in adults.

How are neuroplastic symptoms treated?
Neuroplastic recovery therapies help you train your brain to turn off unnecessary danger signals. The tools include mindfulness, emotional processing, techniques to address stress and trauma, and gradual resumption of triggering activity. These rewire your neural circuits and shift your nervous system from danger to safety, thereby relieving symptoms.
